When Your Phone is More Than Just a Phone
Friday, February 5th, 2010I used to have just regular cell phones. You know, the ones you can make phone calls with, some tedious text messaging and maybe a whacky little snapshot.
Ever since the first Android phone came on the market my interest was piqued. The G1 looked so promising, but seemed to fall a bit short on deliverables. Great concept but still too immature. So I kept waiting, reading reviews.
Fast forward to 2009
The next generation of Android phones appeared on the horizon pioneered here in the US by the MyTouch 3G. Oh boy, did I want one. Eventually I gave in and now I’m the happy owner of a merlot colored Android phone, a phone I’m still smitten with.
It is so much more than a phone. It is my small portable notebook, fun little camera, my weather station, mini news station, quick twitter and facebook tool, my portable library, GPS system and of course my phone.
Of course there is the iPhone, which would harmonize just perfectly with my MacBook, but… it’s only available with AT&T and their ridiculous prices and it doesn’t multitask. The other draw to the Android side is the openness of the system.
Is it all golden with with the Android phones? No – of course not. The hardware they run on could be more powerful, to take full advatage of the possibilities this platform offers. It will come. The upcoming version of Android (2.0) will be out in due time for my phone and will bring improvements with it. Hopefully not for the price of sluggishness.
So what’s your phony love story?
